Activity Description

SERVE at Home is a way for your family to spread kindness and help our community on your own, anytime, anywhere! We want to keep Austin volunteering all week long!

October is Blindness Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about vision loss and the importance of access to vision care. Millions of people around the world lack access to eyeglasses that could correct common vision problems and help improve their opportunities for education, employment, and everyday life.

Help the Texas Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center Foundation (TLERC) make a difference by donating gently used eyeglasses, including sunglasses and reading glasses. TLERC recycles eyeglasses for use in Texas, the United States and around the world. Each year, TLERC supplies 60-80 missions sponsored by church groups, physicians and other organizations with used eyeglasses. During their missions, eye care professionals and trained Lion and Leo volunteers perform vision screenings and dispense the appropriate recycled glasses, free of charge, to children and adults in need.

Activity Directions

Work with your family to collect gently used glasses, including sunglasses and reading glasses, to donate. Please note, contact lenses cannot be accepted.

Donations can be delivered to specially marked Lions Recycle for Sight collection boxes found at various community locations or mailed directly to Texas Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center.

If mailing, place the glasses in an appropriate envelope or box. DO NOT seal it.

Package must have the words “FREE MATTER FOR THE BLIND OR HANDICAPPED” in the upper right corner where postage would normally be placed. It may be printed, rubber stamped or handwritten.

Detailed mailing instructions can be found HERE. Donations can be mailed to:
